Product labeling in Russia is reaching a new level, in some ways tightening the requirements for wholesalers and sellers - a special system is being introduced. But all this is being done for the benefit of the population, so that they buy high-quality certified goods. It is one thing to buy counterfeit shoes and another - counterfeit medicines. In the latter case, the risks are very high.
The transition to modern labeling was stretched out throughout 2020. By autumn, the system should be fully operational. Over the past few years, a system for labeling certain types of products and goods has been tested in test mode. New product labeling requirements were introduced for fur products on August 12, 2016, for medicines on February 1, 2017, and for tobacco and alcohol products on July 2018.
The rules for labeling goods also changed in 2019 (as part of the RF Government Resolution No. 792-r of April 28, 2018). Cameras, clothing, perfumes, and spirits were added to the list of goods subject to mandatory labeling. In the future, this list is planned to be expanded.
The decision on which goods are to be considered mandatory for labeling and what identification means are to be used for labeling specific groups of goods is made by the Government of the Russian Federation, based on Federal Law No. 488-FZ of December 25, 2018.
The previously adopted strategy for combating illegal turnover of industrial products serves as a guideline. For which products does this strategy prescribe mandatory labeling?
