If we want to define this term, we would say that Long Tail Keywords is a niche of search keywords, usually made up of more than 2 words, in which the competition to be able to position it on the first page is lower, and where users who search for that term have more options to generate a conversion.

On the other hand, we find the Head Keywords. These are keywords that are generally made up of a single word. These generate a large volume of searches, but the competition is much fiercer, since everyone wants to compete for the total volume. It must also be said that the conversion rate of these is much lower than that of the Long Tail Keywords, since many times, legal email leads for sale given the broad meaning of the keyword, they can offer us irrelevant traffic for our target.

The following table summarizes in a much more graphic way, and with the most important aspects, the difference between Long Tail Keywords and Head Keywords:

Now that we know the theory and the differences between these two different types of keywords, let's check it with a practical example:

First of all, we will perform the search using a “Head Keyword”, such as the term “sneakers”. In this case, we can see how Google indexes a total of more than 86 million pages.

However, if we perform a more specific search on the terms that the user wants to search for, we see how the result of indexed Google pages drops drastically. In this case, using the term “running shoes”, the pages indexed by Google drops to 553,000 results, meaning less competition to position our page.

Continuing with the example, we can see that the more specific the search term is, the fewer results Google will show, and therefore, less competition and greater ease in being able to position our desired keyword on the first page. In this case, “cheap running shoes barcelona” has 334,000 results. A huge difference compared to the more than 86 million results for the Head word “sneakers”.

How to find Long Tail Keywords for our business
Now that we have a practical understanding of what Long Tail Keywords are, it is time to think about which are the most appropriate terms to promote our website. To find these keywords, we can use the following tools offered by Google:

The simplest one is the one we use every day: Google Instant. As we type keywords for our business into the Google search engine, it will recommend the results that users search for the most. A recommended technique is to enter the keyword “Head” of our business and then add letters of the alphabet: long tail seo google instant
A tool similar to Google Instant is Übbersuggest, which allows us to obtain results similar to those provided by Google, but the advantage is that we can extract all the suggestions in .csv format.
A more advanced tool for analyzing the best Long Tail keywords is the Google AdWords Keyword Planner tool. To use it, you will need an active AdWords account to know the monthly searches that these words report. long tail seo adwords
By combining both techniques, we can extract the results of the Long Tail Keywords that generate the most searches, thus allowing us to focus our efforts on those that interest us the most and to be able to fight for the top positions on the first page with less competition compared to if we did it with "Head" words.

I hope that from now on you will keep in mind that it is not always better to focus on the keywords that generate the most searches, but rather on those that, by optimizing time and money better, can produce a better conversion rate.
