If you don't know what RSS is or how to use Twitter, a book with a list of functionalities probably won't give you the support you need. To help beginners get started, the book could have used more inspiring examples of what is possible with all the new media and how new media are already being used. The discussion of functionalities could have been left out, or moved even more to an online blog.

News items that are very technical for beginners, while more advanced users have known this kind of news for a long time.
