Online behavioral advertising
It is crystal clear: the new rules also apply to online behavioral advertising. Due to a change in definitions, personal data will soon be all data that can be directly or indirectly traced back to an individual. Device identifiers such as cookies, IP addresses and geodata also fall under this. If these are used for marketing, explicit permission will have to be requested.

US companies such as Google, Facebook and Twitter are also not safe from the cayman islands phone number list new rules. European Commissioner Reding wants to be able to take them to task if they violate privacy. “God forgives and forgets, but the internet never does ,” says Reding. That is why the new regulations will not only apply to companies in Europe, but also to companies that target European citizens. The new law also states that companies have a joint responsibility. So if a publisher launches a Facebook app, it may be partly responsible for any privacy violations.

The right to be forgotten
The idea is nice: if you are drunk and hanging from the chandelier at 18, this should not suddenly count against you when you apply for a job at 25. According to the draft text, an organisation must also erase data if someone requests this. Unless of course it is necessary for this data to be retained, for example because someone has a contract with a company. For social media, this is an extra difficult obligation. They must guarantee the removal of publicly published data: '… ensure the erasure of any public Internet link to, copy of, or replication of the personal data relating to the data subject in any publicly available communication service which allows or facilitates the search of or access to his personal data'. The question is what consequences this has for search, for example.
