Are the media partly to blame for the rise of the AfD?

Before the election, it was obvious that AfD representatives were ignored, excluded or generally put in the right-wing corner during talk shows. Anne Will's moderation was astonishingly one-sided when an AfD representative was present. It is undisputed that there are members in the alternative party who wallow in the brown swamp. But we cannot therefore punish all people who voted for the AfD across the board.

After the federal election, accusations are austria rcs data now being made that the one-sided reporting on this party made the AfD's success possible. The bashing of the AfD reminds me of the situation in America during and after the election of Trump. Trump was castigated in the media. Nevertheless, he was elected.

The questionable choice of words used by the leading candidate Alexander Gauland on election night - "We will hunt down Mrs Merkel or whoever" - was immediately quoted and criticized in numerous media outlets. The provocative sentence was also constantly repeated in discussions with other politicians. The AfD always makes the most of every faux pas, just like all of Trump's incorrect formulations. The outgoing Green Bundestag member Hans-Christian Ströbele summed it up on ZDF: "I recommend to everyone, including you here at ZDF or ARD, not to film and comment on every fart or every saying that an AfD member lets out, even if it is bad, for days or weeks. You have brought them up by doing this."
