Consortia in the first two months of 2023: business grows 20%

The consortium sector, in the first two months of 2023, registered growth of over 20% in business carried out. In the months of January and February of this year, credits worth around R$42.13 billion were traded. Thus, closing with an increase of 20.7% compared to the R$34.91 billion in the first two months of 2022.
The indicator of traded credits represents the sum of all consortium contracts signed in a given period. And its increase, from the first two months of one year to the next, reached almost R$ 8 billion in total values. This is also due to the increase in the number of consortium quotas that were sold.

The consortium sector's results in the first two months, in terms of quotas sold, were the best in the last decade. “Once again, the maturity of consumers who plan for the future by controlling their personal finances was evident,” says Paulo Roberto Rossi, executive president of ABAC .
“The continued growth of the Consortium System, as demonstrated by the increase in sales of new quotas and business, is the best proof of this stance. Even with the personal commitments common at that time, those most aware of financial education managed their budgets and continued to join the consortiums, without making impulsive decisions,” highlights Rossi.

Active participants grow 11.3%
The number of active participants in consortium groups reached 9.47 million in February 2023. The number is 11.3% higher than the 8.51 million recorded in the same month of 2022. It is worth noting that the total number of participants has been growing since January of last year, with no decline having been recorded in the last fourteen months.
The first months of a new year are mainly characterized by expectations about the behavior or trends of the Brazilian economy in general. In years marked by the arrival of new federal and state governments, this is common.
The main indicator for 2022, the 2.9% GDP growth, was good news. For 2023, some analysts predict lower growth, of 1.5%. Even so, this number does not diminish the consortium sector's prospects for the year.
In February 2023, the accumulated inflation over twelve months reached 5.63%. On the other hand, the basic interest rate ( Selic ) remains at 13.75%. Even in this scenario, ABAC's economic advisory team believes in the continuation of the growth of the Consortium System for 2023 and its important presence in the national economy.
“The good results obtained by the Consortium System in the first two months of the year project a good annual performance supported by the attitudes of consumers who have demonstrated the necessary care in managing their personal finances. This year, we will also need to give the new government time to present their proposals, trusting that the expected results will allow us to repeat the numbers achieved in 2022”, concludes ABAC’s economic advisor, Luiz Barbagallo.
