Social media in five years
Social media will grow enormously in the next two years. Everyone will connect with everyone. Former colleagues you haven't seen in ten years, former fellow students you've never had a conversation with, and so on. People with whom there is no connection at all will also be added to the networks. More than 20,000 to 100,000 followers on Twitter, more than 5,000 contacts on LinkedIn and then all the vague acquaintances who are recognized as friends on Facebook. Quantity becomes more important than quality. And then I'm talking about the social media that are important now, in 2011. But after those two years, there will be a turning point.

All your connections also have so many connections that contact becomes impossible. Everything you want to express on social media is snowed under by the masses. Social is no longer social. This gives space to new social networks where people are more selective about their contacts. In three years, someone will come up with the brilliant idea that connections on social media should have an expiration date. This expiration system will work as an overlapping layer above all your social networks. When installing the application, the system will check with all your connections when you last had direct contact with each other. You specify a period yourself; the default value will be one year. The system puts all connections with whom you have not had contact in the past year on a nomination list. This nomination list is a kind of quarantine list, in which you can still make adjustments yourself. These connections are then removed from your social network and your network becomes cleaner. Your network becomes a social network again, without all the worthless connections.

This is going to become a trend very quickly and in no time more and panama phone number list more people will finally have a cleaned up qualitative network. From that moment on you start with a clean slate. New contacts that you add, you don't just add anymore. There has to be a real connection. You become aware of the value of a connection again. Things that you want to share with others are shared again. Conversation starts again and social becomes really 'social' again.

Realized invention
In five years, a mobile device will be the most important possession of every world citizen. The device is always connected to 'The Web', as we will collectively call the internet and all social networks again. To call a mobile device an invention is going a bit too far. The iPad is not an invention either, but a smarter redesign of existing concepts. A smartphone is simply a telephone with computer functionalities. All inventions of the last ten years can be traced back to an earlier concept. However, when I think of invention, I continue to think of a device. So the device that will have changed our actions in five years is a very intelligent redesigned mobile device.

The device will run on solar energy and kinetic energy. When the battery is empty, you shake it and the device is charged again. Solar energy has been around for years, as has generating kinetic energy. Just think of watches that work like that. The techniques to efficiently capture and convert this energy will develop rapidly in the coming years and will be further fueled by market demand. These devices will become the basic for every user. They will be purchased by everyone worldwide at a rapid pace, including by residents of 'third world countries'.
