With a plate or box heat exchanger it is more complicated. To make it yourself, you will need a carbon dioxide welding semiautomatic or argon welding. In terms of heat removal efficiency in a sauna stove, a heat exchanger plate is slightly inferior to a coil, but is cheaper.
Register heat exchangers are welded from heat-resistant steel pipes, they are slightly worse in efficiency than plate heat exchangers, but they tolerate overheating very well. Even if the water supply to the sauna stove stops, as a rule, this does not lead to damage to the heat exchange circuit. This type of heat exchanger can also be made from a copper pipe, the efficiency of the device increases by one and a half to two times, but at the same time, resistance to overheating is significantly reduced.
Since all the listed models differ significantly in their ability to moj data overheating, the location for installing a specific model is selected based on the design of the firebox and the material from which the heat exchanger is made.
Frame or register systems are usually used in brick sauna stoves. The device is sealed into the upper part of the firebox or into the vault of the stove at the stage of its construction. In this case, the pipes for connection to the tank are brought out from the back or from the sides of the stove body.
Flat copper and stainless steel coils are installed in the same way. They can be embedded either in the vault or in one of the vertical walls of the firebox in the sauna stove.
Twisted copper coils are traditionally installed on the upper chimney. Sometimes the coil is located directly under the central hot water tank. The tank heats up water for spraying the heater, and the copper heat exchanger heats up water for the shower or washing area.
Plate and box heat exchangers are installed on one of the side walls in the sauna stove. They are usually used for steel or cast iron stoves. To install, it is enough to cut two holes in the wall. After that, spacer bushings are put on the outlet pipes, and the heat exchanger is installed inside the firebox using union nuts. This type of heat exchanger is also called dry, since water does not get inside the firebox under any circumstances.
