There are two types of survey questions - open and closed. Open questions allow for arbitrary answers, while closed questions have several pre-set answer options.

Closed questions
These types of questions include:

yes/no questions (assume one answer option);

The scales can be as follows:

General scale: yes / rather yes / rather no / no / difficult to answer. It can be used for a wide variety of questions.

Rating scale: very good / good / rather bad / bad / difficult to answer.

Agreement scale: absolutely agree / somewhat agree / somewhat disagree / absolutely disagree / difficult to answer.

Satisfaction scale: absolutely satisfied / rather satisfied / rather dissatisfied / absolutely dissatisfied / difficult to answer.

Questions with scaled answers can be a series. For example, "Rate the service according to the following criteria." After that, there is a specification in several questions with scaled answers.

When analyzing the questionnaire, each answer is assigned a certain number of points, for example, + 1, + 0.5, 0, – 0.5 and – 1, where “0” is the “I find it difficult to answer” option, after which an index from – 1 to + 1 is calculated. This indicator demonstrates the average opinion of people. Indices are very useful when it is necessary to find out the attitude of clients of a certain group to a company or product, as well as track its dynamics.

There are also interval scales. They are used in the following cases:

When it is necessary to estimate the age of clients: up to 18 years / 18–25 years / 26–30 years and so on. In this case, the calculation will be made not using points, but using the arithmetic mean of each interval (for the interval “18–25 years”, this will be the number 21.5).

When you need to track the regularity of your clients' actions. To do this, it is better to set specific time intervals: once a week or more often / once every 2-3 weeks / once a month, etc. It is not worth using abstract options like "often" or "periodically", since everyone has their own perception of these categories.

A closed question may be followed by other questions - clarifying ones. The respondent may skip them if he answered negatively to the main question.

For example: "Have you used this service this year?" If the answer is "no", then further questions about the service can be skipped.
